This article answers all my remianing questions about Iridium
http://www.msnbc.com/news/263056.asp

How much do they cost? About $2,300.

Do they work inside buildings? No. Iridium blames such
failings on the customer. They aren't trained to use it properly.

What does the LLC mean after Iridium? It means the
investors have limited liability, particularly
for the debts of the company. No wonder both
the CEO/CFO were immediately ousted. The board
members may be personaly liable for some portion of the debt.

What went wrong? The technology sucks, is too expensive,
doesn't live up to the marketing hype. SNS thinks they outsourced
their marketing and distribution and that's driving the problems,
but it's always easy to point to outsiders to blame the other
guy for flagging sales.

Will it survive? No.

Even with a new business model? No.
