Before there was midi there was chaos. After midi came genral midi which
went even further in making every midi able device be able to use
the same commands and "sound" sort of the same. At best is was able to
have simliar responses regardless of what device you were using if you
said " play a c# and make it sound liek a piano."

I remeber dealing with the SId and POkey chips and man did MIDI rock my
world.
