recycled rant from another list

Broadbase and Kana are merging. Shit approaches fan.
I slept maybe two hours last night.
Wow, what a crazy ride.

Ah. One great advantage of being meat.

I do feel your pain, BTW. I'm sure all of us do.

MY rant of the day is,

IF it's impossible to write C code without buffer overruns,
AND if buffer overruns lead to security holes,
THEN why do we run privileged internet-accessible services written in C?

Not very carefully worded, but I didn't sleep at all last night
because I've been stressing about the coming aftermath of the merger
of my company (Broadbase) with Kana. LOTS of layoffs, including my
boss. LOTS of projects being axed, including the one I've been working
on for the past several months. Nonetheless they want to keep me.

Ah, such exciting times. Remember the Gay Nineties, when the streets
were paved with gold and you couldn't walk ten yards without getting
three job offers and/or tripping over piles of cash? Well...
welcome to the Nothing Noughties.

Well, actually I always felt a sense of impending doom during the Gay
Nineties. Sort of a millenium-before-the-return-of-the-beast /
_Sea Of Glass_ kind of dread. (BTW read the book, it's out of print,
but not hard to find.) Now at least it's not impending anymore.
