I like globes, but an atlas would help you more. An island of the size
you can afford to buy won't show up in an atlas, and certainly won't show
up on a globe. But the atlas will at least show your neighborhood in
detail (once you find an island; try nautical charts).

Interestingly, if your island were 1/4 mile in each direction, a globe at
screen resolution (72dpi) would need to be 36 feet in diameter for your
island to appear.

Mother Jones reports that Switzerland is out, microstates are in:

"Secret accounts have traditionally been the province of private banks in
Switzerland, Austria, and Luxembourg. But those nations have lost favor
among depositors in recent years as they have eased bank secrecy laws in
response to international pressure. Small states in the Caribbean and the
South Pacific, eager to offset declining tourism and lower prices for farm
exports, have rushed to fill the void, turning to offshore banking as an
easy and effective means of attracting big money from abroad (see "Tropic
of Tax Cheats," this page)." [1]

"Fred's Bank" ? Can you convince anyone to do wire transfers with you?
